Devotional - January 2, 2017
Scripture: Genesis: 1& 2
Devotional: Here we are in 2017! First devotional of the year. I am excited and anxious for what this year is going to bring. There is a lot that I want to write about, but I want to slowly put it all together in this journal because the point of this journal is to be more transparent, be more accessible/constant and provide shorter content. This journal section will not be as long and detailed as my writing section, but it will allow you to see more of my heart and where I am currently in my daily walk.
Like I said I want to be short and sweet so, I have written down goals for this year in certain areas of my life, but I really did not have one word that I wanted to pursue this year. I thought it would be consistency, but if I recall that was my word last year. One word that is really pressing on me though is Passion. Being able to do everything with passion. From my work, ministry, and even the way I go about my children, family, friends and daily life. I want to pursue everything with a genuine passion. I can admit that I let things affect me externally, but this year I really want to take ownership and control every day of my life and not allow outside things to control my life.
I felt tugged to start reading the full Bible this year, which is something that I have never done. I encourage you to do it and I would love to stay accountable with you and you with me. Let me know if you join me in this. I started with Genesis 1 and 2 and it took me most of the day because of how busy things got at the office, but as I read Genesis 1 what intrigued me most was the fact that with just one word God created change. With one word God, can change the course of our lives forever. The Bible says in Genesis 1:31 Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was very good! Whatever God has his hands on is good. So, like Scriptures says, if God is with us, who can be against us.
Chapter 2 of Genesis goes on to speak of the formation of Eve. I have read this before, but what spoke to me was the fact that the very thing that God created needed something additional to make it even better or better yet to make it complete and function better. God will look at our lives and if there are things that need more additional support than God will not hesitate to make the right provision to meet that need. God will not withhold his hand. God is always at work in our lives. Even when God rested after creating everything, he still brought Eve to the mix. God is not done in our lives and the very moment that we think he has finished or left is the moment that he shows up even more.
Prayer: My prayer today is that God continues the work that he has begun and continues to create good things around us and in us. My prayer is that God speaks his word clearly to us because when he does, it will change the course of our lives.
Challenge: What is one thing that you are striving for this year? What is that one word that you want to define 2017 by? Is it Faithful? Consistent? Loving? Or Happier? Let God lead you in this and write it down where you will remember every day.
